Objectives
With an increased focus on employee wellbeing and changes being made across the site, Rapidrop wanted ck4 to create a user friendly environment that aided rest and recovery for all staff members during their shifts. Rapidrop were keen to change the existing dynamic and encourage staff to engage with their colleagues socially, switch off and in turn, increase productivity, reduce stress levels and improve physical and mental health. ck4 were able to do this by zoning the space, allowing staff to use the space differently depending on their needs.
Scope of Works
• Interior Fit-Outs: This included removing redundant services, housing in an existing server cabinet, overboarding walls, re-skim plasterboard ceiling around new lighting installation, new vinyl safety flooring and decorations throughout.
• Electrical Installations: Installing feature lighting, ensuring adequate power supply throughout and installing new electric heaters.
Challenges
As the works progressed, we found additional hidden flooring which needed to be removed. This meant that the subfloor wasn’t as expected, resulting in additional work needed to level the floor, adding a slight delay to the installation of the new safety flooring. We were able to work around this by working in areas that were not being used at the time to ensure a continuous flow of work.
Design Aesthetics
Design aesthetics were a key focus of the project whilst keeping to a budget. The goal was to create a contemporary and separate space from the rest of the site to allow staff to disassociate form work and have a break. ck4 were able to do this by using design aesthetics such as; zoning the space with complimentary colour palettes, wallpaper, flooring, feature lighting and practical furniture, all whilst maintaining the brand identity throughout.
• Furniture: The space was designed to allow a variety of seating, from high stools to café style tables and a large dining table to encourage socialising and collaboration, as well as a quiet area for relaxing and alone time.
• Lighting: This project includes feature lighting across the different seating areas to help with the zoning, create different atmospheres and soften the space.
• Flooring: The safety flooring in the canteen was specified with safety and design in mind. Using contrasting finishes to zone the space whilst ensuring a non-slip floor for people coming in and out of the space from outside.
Outcomes
Upon completion, the client has a newly refurbished canteen ready for their staff in the new year, providing a comfortable space for everyone with their employees at the heart of it.
Overall, the project met the objectives of providing a refurbishment canteen space for the team to enjoy and recharge. The design reflects the brand colour palette and enables the team to decompress.
