Project Manager: Rachael McLuckie
Timescale: 3 weeks
The Diocese was relocating to a new purpose built facility on the outskirts of Ely and needed a fitout solution to complement their new training centre. There were a variety of requirements from café breakout, office space planning and conference areas.

Objectives

The primary objective was to create a functional space, whilst ensuring durability to withstand daily use by office staff and regular use at training events. Creating a positive working environment that encourages productivity and learning. Sustainability was considered to be an important factor when specifying products and finishes.

Scope of Works

The project focused on the specification of furniture, fixtures and equipment across the whole building. This included a variety of spaces, such as the reception area. This required careful space planning with increased consideration for accessibility as this space needs to be suitable for individuals with mobility issues. Comfort and practicality were of importance whilst maintaining a well thought out design scheme.

The café and breakout space had to be multipurpose, including functions such as dining, meetings, workspaces and socials.

Training and conference areas were an essential part of this project, due to the nature of the facility. This was required to be a multifunctional space with adjustable, stackable furniture with the ability to store items for different events.

The prayer room was also a dual-use space, acting as a prayer room and meeting room. This was done to provide a quiet, calming and comfortable space for reflection.
The open plan office was well thought out with a specification to suit the requirements of individual users’ dependant on their personal needs and job roles. A creative use of personalised storage meant the staff each have a workspace that works for them. The addition of live planters were included due to the importance of well-being.

Challenges

The main challenge was in keeping the specification of the space cohesive throughout the building whilst meeting the needs of a variety of users and functionality of spaces.

Outcomes

Upon completion, the project successfully delivered a functional and beautiful training centre for the Diocese. This has provided a comfortable environment for all staff and external training individuals.

Sustainable materials and products were incorporated to align with the Diocese’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Overall, the project achieved its objectives of providing a new working environment through improved facilities while ensuring thought out design and specification. The new training centre reflects the Diocese’s dedication to providing a supportive space for its community.
